It’s one year to go until the opening day of the 2021 ICF Canoe Freestyle World Championships and to mark the occasion, British Canoeing is delighted to launch the brand new competition website.
Set to be held at the National Water Sports Centre in Nottingham from 13-17 July 2021, the course will play host to over 200 of the world’s best canoe freestyle athletes from 25 countries, battling it out in nine events and all looking to secure that coveted World Championship title.
The World Championships is held every two years and 2021 will see the competition take place in Great Britain for the first time for 30 years, with The Bitches in South Wales playing host back in 1991.
The event will be a great opportunity for canoeing enthusiasts, sports fans and the local community to see the Great Britain team in front of a home crowd, following a successful 2019 campaign in Sort, Spain, where the team came away with four medals.
To coincide with one year to go, British Canoeing has launched the 2021 ICF Canoe Freestyle World Championships website, which provides information about the event, what freestyle moves to look out for, opportunities to volunteer and more!
Reigning Junior World Champion Ottilie Robinson-Shaw can’t wait showcase the sport to a home crowd in 2021.
Ottilie will be taking on her first senior international competition in Nottingham and is fully focused on the event.
“I am beyond excited for the World Championships next year. Not only is it my first senior Worlds, but it is on home turf, the course I grew up paddling and learnt the majority of my tricks on. With so few competitions this year I’m fully focussed on 2021 and cannot wait.
“I’ve been lucky to travel as far as Argentina for the 2017 World Championships, but it will be especially special to compete in front of a home crowd including my parents, brother, gran and many other friends and family who don’t normally have the opportunity to watch me compete and I’m sure all the Brits feel the same.”
I hope that the Worlds in Nottingham will inspire many paddlers but particularly youngsters to try freestyle and see what an awesome sport it is
