Double Silver for standout Mallory Franklin at World Cup 3

Franklin starts weekend with first ever K1 medal

Mallory may be known as more of a C1 athlete, backed up by her World Championship win in Pau last year, but the Windsor athlete is also extremely competitive in K1 and showed her ambition to be amongst the best in both classes by claiming her first medal in the event.
As Britain’s only qualifier for the final, Mallory put in a storming run to take second place and the silver medal, 6.46 seconds behind Australia’s Jessica Fox who is in unbeatable form this season.
Having come close to the K1 medals on a couple of occasions during 2017, the inform athlete was delighted to get on the podium.
She said:

“It was really good to get on the podium. Obviously, Jess (Fox) really bashed it out of the park, but to come away with second and my first kayak medal is amazing. With the number of fourth, I got last year, it is really nice to pull it out and get a medal out of it.
“The season is going well so far and I am enjoying it.
“I generally haven’t quite got out the runs I wanted to, but to still get medals when I haven’t done perfect runs means I can’t complain too much. I knew it would always take me longer to get to the medals in kayak as it is a more competitive discipline than C1.”

Mallory doubles up on the medals at World Cup 3

Competing of the back her success from the K1 silver, Mallory Franklin followed up on her first ICF Slalom World Cup medal in the event yesterday by winning her second consecutive silver of the weekend in the C1 event.

Speaking on her double success:

“I’m happy with my placings and obviously two silvers is amazing,
“And I was happy with my runs but there’s definitely more to come with them. To be able to do the runs that aren’t necessarily to the standard I hold as my best and still come away with medals is really good.
“Yesterday was my first ever kayak medal so it’s great to have another first today.
“I’ve had a really good season so far.  My kayak results have been pretty solid, I’ve really enjoyed it and that’s where the most important part.”
