British Canoeing announces the cancellation of two international events scheduled to be hosted in 2020

British Canoeing has today confirmed the cancellation of the European Canoe Association (ECA) Slalom Championships which was scheduled to take place at Lee Valley White Water Centre in May and the International Canoe Federation (ICF) Freestyle World Cup which was due to be hosted at the National Water Sports Centre in Nottingham in July 2020.

The ICF and ECA have confirmed that the cancellations are due to the impact of the Coronavirus pandemic on travel restrictions and the importance of the welfare of athletes, coaches, officials, volunteers and spectators.

David Joy, Chief Executive of British Canoeing said:

“The organising partners for each event fully endorse the decisions taken by the ICF and ECA. In the interest of the well-being of all of those involved, it was the right decision to cancel these events and to do so as early as possible.”

“We are of course disappointed particularly for the athletes, but also for the organisers and sponsors who have contributed so much and who were looking forward to the delivery of two outstanding events.”

Those that have purchased tickets for the 2020 ECA Canoe Slalom European Championships will receive a refund.

The event’s ticket partner, See Tickets, will contact all ticket holders who are all entitled to a face value refund.

See Tickets will automatically return the money within 30 days via the method by which the ticket was purchased.

Transaction fees and any other expenses incurred will not be refunded.
