British Canoeing Events Ltd was established in 2018 with the purpose of developing and delivering an international events strategy in line with the strategic plan of British Canoeing. It is also responsible for the organising and running of key international events.

Event Description
The first ever Masters Freestyle World Championships is taking place alongside the 2022 ICF Canoe Freestyle World Championships. The event will feature categories for men and women in the following age groups:
  • 40-49 year olds
  • 50-59 year olds
  • 60+ year olds
On Thursday 30 June and Friday 1 July, paddlers will each compete on two features with their aggregate score counting to their final result. The winners of each category will then all compete in a Super Final on Saturday 2 July on the World Championship feature using a handicap system to crown the overall champion. As well as the Masters Freestyle event, participants will also be able to compete free of charge in additional competitions taking place throughout the week that are exclusively open to paddlers from the Masters and ICF World Championships. These competitions will be:
  • Flatwater Freestyle
  • World’s Biggest Loop
  • Syncro Freestyle
  • Downriver Freestyle

Please note, athletes are able to participate in the 2022 ICF Canoe Freestyle World Championships as well as the Masters World Championships and wherever possible, organisers will try to schedule Masters heats in order to accommodate those competing in both events. .

Format

Thursday will be on inlet gate

  • Competition format will either be best 1 ride of 2 or best 2 rides of 3 depending on the numbers
  • ICF 45 second runs.

Friday will use both Troll and Fairy Wave (you can throw tricks on either wave)

  • Run using 30 minute Jam heats

Age categories

As per rule 1.4.6 of the ICF Freestyle Rules - An athlete can compete in a masters event in the year that they reach the lower limit of the age group.

  • If you reach the age of 40 or older in 2022 (1st Jan – 31st December 2022) then you can enter the 40-49 category.
  • If you reach the age of 50 or older in 2022 (1st Jan – 31st December 2022) then you can entery the 50-59 category.
  • If you reach the age of 60 or older in 2022 (1st Jan – 31st December 2022) then you can enter the 60+ category.
